Gas Fridge talks about power outages and food in your refrigerator

The EZ Freeze gas refrigerator from Gas Fridge can save you the loss of perishable food during a power outage.
There are some natural disasters, like hurricanes, that come with warnings and some, like earthquakes, that don't come with any. When the power goes out it doesn't matter. How long can the power be off before we find ourselves throwing out hundreds of dollars’ worth of food or risk eating it? If you have a gas refrigerator you don’t have to worry about power outages affecting your perishable food supply. If you have an electric-powered refrigerator, Gas Fridge has some tips that will help you know what to do if you lose power to your fridge:

After four hours, if the power is still off you'll need to start monitoring the temperature inside your fridge. Once the temperature inside reaches 40°F or higher, perishable food is only good for two more hours before you should toss it.

Foods to Toss
  • Soups, stews, and casseroles that contain meat, poultry, or seafood
  • Any kind of milk, cream, yogurt, sour cream and soft, shredded or low fat cheese
  • Eggs and anything that contains eggs
  • Cut fruit
  • Creamy condiments like dressings, spaghetti sauce and mayonnaise that have been over 50°F for 8+ hours
  • Uncooked refrigerator biscuits, rolls, cookie dough
  • Fresh pasta, salads
  • Cheesecake, cream or custard pies, cream-filled pastries
  • Pre-washed greens, cooked vegetables, vegetable juice, garlic in oil, tofu

Foods You Can Keep
  • Hard, processed, grated hard cheeses (Parmesan and Romano)
  • Butter or margarine
  • Fruit juice, fresh whole fruits, dried fruits
  • Nut butters, jams, jellies, ketchup, olives, pickles, BBQ sauce, relish, vinegar-based dressings,
  • Fruit pies
  • Raw veggies

Knowing what to keep in the freezer is a lot easier than the refrigerator. Basically, you just want foods, no matter what kind, to stay frozen! After the power comes back on, check foods for ice crystals. If there are still crystals, you can safely refreeze it again.

If you'd rather have the peace of mind that your refrigerated food is being kept cold during your next power outage, call the experts at Gas Fridge at 928-636-1956 to ask about our EZ Freeze line of products. Visit http://www.gas-fridge.com for more information and features of the EZ Freeze gas refrigerators.

Gas Fridge explains living off the grid

Gas Fridge offers you the gas powered refrigerators you need for living off the grid.Whether you are prepping for a national disaster or simply for your family budget, living off the grid can become a new way of life. Gas Fridge will explain what it means to live off the grid.

The term “off-grid” has become a very common expression over the past few years. Much of it has to do with alarming current events. On the other hand, some people have just had enough of being a slave to the modern world. Whatever the reason, going off-grid is a trend growing like wildfire. Yet there are still many people who know little about it.

Let’s assume you’ve never heard anything about off-grid living. You live on the electric grid. If you have power running to your home from the community in which you live, then you are considered “on the grid.” Every time something goes wrong at the electric company, and they suffer a power outage, so do you.

Off-the-grid living means the opposite. Living “off the grid” means:
  • You would live with either no electricity or a self-sustained source of electricity, for example from a gas-powered generator.
  • You may choose to refrigerate with propane.
  • You would also either use an outhouse or a septic tank. You would have a water well or another water source nearby from which to collect water.
  • Many of those who are off the grid continue the concept into other areas of their lives, including being totally self-sustained by raising their own food.

Now that you have an idea of what it is to live off the grid, does a lifestyle of living off the grid interest you? If you’re considering purchasing an EZ Freeze propane gas refrigerator, the experienced staff at Gas Fridge is happy to assist you. Gas Fridge shares helpful tips for setting up your gas refrigerator

When you're ready to purchase a propane or natural gas refrigerator, Gas Fridge offers the best warranty in the industry.
When you purchase your gas refrigerator, it is recommended that you hire a licensed technician to safely and expertly set up your gas connections and install your appliance. Gas Fridge wants you to be aware of the general steps for safe installation. In the event you smell gas, immediately open all doors and windows. Do not operate electrical switches. Extinguish all open flames. Immediately call your gas service provider.

Connecting to your gas supply
All EZ Freeze Propane Gas Refrigerators are equipped with a fitting that does not need tape, liquid or paste sealers. A flex line is used to connect the unit to your gas supply. It's recommended that you make your connection to an On/Off valve. Make sure the flex line is long enough to give you the room to move the unit away from the wall. By doing this, you will have enough line to allow access to the rear of the unit for service.

Testing for Leaks
ALL connections must be tested for leaks prior to ignition. After ignition, test all connections again for leaks. You can use the traditional soapy water solution to test for leaks or professional solutions like "Gas Leak Detector" liquids. Apply the solution using a soft bristle brush and inspect the connections for bubbles.

Gas Pressure
All EZ Freeze Propane Refrigerators are designed to operate from an LP gas supply with 11" W.C. (Water Column) gas pressure. Your gas supplier will be able to check the pressure at the time of installation or you can check it yourself with a Manometer.

Leveling
Absorption type propane gas refrigerators all operate with the use of gravity. The angle of the tubing on the unit will determine the flow rate of the liquids. To ensure the best efficiency, it is essential that the unit be level to get an accurate flow rate.

Ventilation
Air ventilation (circulation) is very important - the larger the unit, the more circulation is required. Situate your refrigerator so that there is plenty of air circulation above and behind the unit. By providing plenty of air circulation you will prevent excessive heat buildup, allow for efficient refrigerator performance, and prevent a draft which could cause the burner to blow out.

If you’re considering purchasing an EZ Freeze propane gas refrigerator, the experienced staff at Gas Fridge is happy to offer technical assistance and the best warranty in the industry. For more information on gas refrigerators and accessories, contact us today at 928-636-6674. Learn more at http://www.gas-fridge.com.

Gas Fridge shares how propane refrigerators work with no moving parts

Gas Fridge offers the EZ Freeze gas powered refrigerator, the best in the industry. How does a propane fridge work? Gas Fridge would like to describe how propane refrigerators work - with no moving parts!

First the heat

Electric refrigerators use a coolant to keep the interior cold. In contrast, a propane fridge relies on simple chemical reactions. The process of propane refrigeration begins with a flame fed by a propane tank, which is why the appliance is called a propane fridge.

Every propane fridge contains a sealed network of tubes and chambers which hold water, ammonia and hydrogen gas. When a propane flame heats a chamber holding a solution of water and ammonia, the liquid begins to boil. Then the ammonia gas rises to another chamber, the condenser. In the condenser, the ammonia cools back into a liquid. This liquid then flows to the evaporator, where it mixes with hydrogen gas.

Then the cooling

When ammonia meets the hydrogen gas, the chemical reaction between the two absorbs heat. In that way, the propane fridge produces its cooling action. Heat is pulled from the interior of the refrigerator into the ammonia-hydrogen mix. As heat is absorbed, the ammonia becomes a gas once again. The ammonia and hydrogen gases then combine with water. The ammonia and water form a solution yet again. That process releases the hydrogen gas to rise back to the evaporator. The process then starts all over again and is repeated continuously – all with no moving parts!

Among the many benefits of propane refrigerators, the fact that it has no moving parts means quiet operation and no mechanical issues. We proudly carry EZ Freeze gas refrigerators. We are so confident that EZ Freeze is the best product, we give you a 7-year warranty on the cooling unit and a 3-year warranty on the entire unit - the best warranty in the business. Gas Fridge offers maintenance tips for gas refrigerators

Gas Fridge offers the EZ Freeze gas refrigerator with the best warranty in the business.
A gas refrigerator is an important investment. As with any investment, there are maintenance requirements to get the most out of your gas appliance. Gas Fridge suggests these maintenance tips to increase the longevity of your gas refrigerator.

Proper cleanliness is important, especially on the inside of the refrigerator. A recommended and convenient time for cleaning your refrigerator is during the regular maintenance or right after defrosting.

To clean the inside:
  • Use a soft cloth
  • Use a mild soap and warm water solution
  • Rinse the inside with a baking soda and warm water mixture of approximately 1-2 tbsp. to 1 qt. warm water.
  • Wipe dry with a soft cloth
  • NEVER use a coarse cloth for cleaning
For the outside:
  • Clean the outside with the same instructions and products shown above for the inside
  • Waxing the outside of the refrigerator box may prevent against minor scratches and add to rust protection
  • Use a standard auto wax on the painted metal surfaces only. DO NOT use on the plastic handles or rubber gasket
  • Always check the gasket surfaces for debris as this can cause a cold air leak from the interior.

Cleaning the absorption cooling unit will help with the unit’s overall efficiency. This should be done every three months. Simply use a large soft bristle brush and clean the dust and lint from the condenser fins (at rear top of cooling unit) and the coil pipes (at the bottom) .

Keep the area around and under the refrigerator clean. This will help prevent debris from being sucked into the burner tube. This is actually the most common problem with propane powered refrigerators not operating correctly. This should be done every three months.

A gas refrigerator is an important investment. The maintenance tips above will help to preserve your investment and keep your gas refrigerator operating properly. Gas Fridge shares reasons to own a gas refrigerator

Gas Fridge shares why the EZ Freeze Gas Refrigerator is your best choice for a non-electric, natural gas or propane refrigerator.Cold food storage is necessary for healthy living and survival. From the old ice boxes to today’s modern appliances, refrigerators have come a long way. They not only come in different shapes, sizes, and colors, but they are powered by different energy sources as well. Gas Fridge shares some of the reasons to own a gas-powered refrigerator.

You don’t have on-grid electricity. Gas fridges are a great option if your home or vacation home is not connected to a local electric utility. The EZ Freeze refrigerator runs on natural gas or propane. Propane is portable, can be stored, and has an unlimited shelf life when stored in a properly sealed container.

An electric refrigerator makes too much noise. Electric refrigerators have lots of moving parts: compressors, fans, and motors, all working together to keep your food at the desired temperature. Unfortunately, moving parts means potential for mechanical failure. Gas fridges have no moving parts, making them quiet and dependable.

You experience more natural disasters or power outages. When electricity goes off, all the food in your refrigerator and freezer are at risk. Losing a refrigerator full of food and/or medicines due to a power outage would be an expensive situation, and a potential threat to your health and survival. Having a gas fridge as a backup unit is one way to avoid that risk.

You are sensitive to EMF (electromagnetic field) emissions. There are a number of people who experience symptoms that they attribute to EMF exposure. Limiting the number of appliances and devices in your home that run on electricity can decrease EMF exposure. A non-electric refrigerator does not give off EMFs.

A gas-powered refrigerator gets as cold or colder than its electric counterpart and can use either natural gas or propane. With no moving parts, no EMFs, and no need for electricity, a gas fridge may be the perfect solution for you. For more information, Contact Gas Fridge today at 928-636-6674. A Propane Refrigerator.
You can still have safe, convenient food storage, no electricity needed, even in crisis situations. Propane appliances are a viable solution whenever you need modern refrigeration without electricity. You can rest assured that you are ready for any kind of emergency.

A Propane Heater. Propane heaters come in many different sizes. All you need to do is to figure out the safe size for the space you want to heat. Your expert propane appliance specialist can help you to choose the heater that is right for you and your needs.

Gas Fridge discusses the benefits of choosing a freezerless refrigerator

Gas Fridge recommends the EZ Freeze gas refrigerator for your home.Have you ever gone to the grocery store and come back with more than what fits in your refrigerator? Or, in the summer months when you have lots of produce, do you have ample room in your refrigerator? Gas Fridge discusses the benefit of a refrigerator that has no freezer! Imagine that!

If you are okay with having a chest freezer and a freezerless refrigerator, this may be perfect for you. Some people don’t even need a freezer at all. This is ideal for those who like to eat fresh food only, or those that are satisfied with a chest freezer.

Pluses
The greatest benefit is the extra space. There is not a lot of wasted space on walls between the freezer and refrigerator. That opens up the refrigerator to store a lot more than your current side-by-side. Which brings up another point: energy savings. Chances are you will be using less energy on a chest freezer and freezerless refrigerator than a refrigerator-freezer combination.

Minuses
The downside is the lack of an ice dispenser. Other than that, there really is no other downside. If you are someone that would be interested in a freezerless freezer, chances are you already have a solution for freezing or you don’t need one at all.

How much $?
Just like standard refrigerators, there is a wide range of prices with freezerless refrigerators. They run anywhere between $600 and $3000. Also, remember to add in the extra cost if you do not already own a freezer, which would add another $100 to $600.

If a  freezerless refrigerator would fit the needs for your family by giving you more refrigerator space for fresh foods, consider a gas-powered freezerless refrigerator from Gas Fridge. Gas Fridge explains what gas refrigerators are and the fuels they use

Purchase your natural gas or propane refrigerator from Gas Fridge, the experts in gas powered refrigerators
When you hear the term “gas-powered refrigerator,” it is just that, a refrigerator that is cooled using either natural gas or propane rather than electricity. Refrigerators that are powered by gas can be used in household, RV, and commercial uses. Propane is commonly used since it is easy to handle and portable. Gas Fridge specializes in gas refrigerators that can be fueled by either natural gas or propane.

Household-style gas refrigerators are designed to operate without electricity. You will often find these models in “off the grid” homes or homes without electric service. These models are more simple in design, as compared to the electric-powered refrigerators. One advantage of the simple operation is maintenance costs are kept at a minimum.

If the gas refrigerator is needed for household use, it is best to purchase a refrigerator with the capacity to hold several days’ worth of food, rather than a salvaged RV model with a capacity for only a two- or three-day supply.

If you are fortunate enough to have an on-property gas well, you are getting as close to free utilities as you can by using a gas refrigerator. An EZ Freeze Refrigerator is completely non-electric requiring only propane or natural gas to operate.

Why buy gas refrigerators from us:
All units purchased through Gas Fridge include the free Upgraded Cooling Unit Warranty. Enjoy peace of mind with the 7-year warranty on the Cooling Unit along with a 3-year warranty on the entire unit. This is the best warranty in the business.

You can learn more about the different types of gas-fueled refrigerators and the best fuels to use by calling the experts at Gas Fridge at 928-636-6674. If you're considering a propane or natural gas fridge for your home or RV, please visit our website at http://www.gas-fridge.com.

Gas Fridge discusses the advantages of using liquid propane gas

Gas Fridge discusses the benefits of using liquid propane gas for your home needs.
To understand the advantages of using liquid propane gas, it’s important to understand what it is. Gas Fridge, experts in the absorption refrigeration field, would like to explain not only what liquid propane is, but also the benefits of using liquid propane.

Liquid propane is similar to natural gas, but is a different chemical compound. Liquid propane, or LP gas, is normally a gaseous material, but when stored under pressure it becomes a liquid. Because it is easy to transport, propane use is very common in the camping world.

  • Liquid propane has a higher heating value, which means it provides more heat for cooking or heating your home, using less fuel.
  • LP gas does not contain sulphur, making it a cleaner energy source than oil.
  • Liquid propane is non-toxic, not harmful to soil or water, and will not harm the environment if released into the atmosphere.
  • LP gas burns more consistently, which makes it more dependable than other energy sources.
  • Liquid propane is more environmentally friendly, releasing less carbon dioxide than other heating sources, like coal and oil.

If there is no access to natural gas sources or gas lines, liquid propane is a perfect solution. It can be easily transported and stored underground, which makes LP a great alternative fuel for people who live off the grid.

With the many benefits of propane as a fuel source, why not consider purchasing a gas refrigerator and taking advantage of clean-burning, environmentally-friendly propane in your home? To learn about EZ Freeze LP Refrigerators, or for more information about how a gas appliance could fit into your lifestyle, contact Gas Fridge today at 928-636-6674. Gas Fridge Shares the Benefits of Using Propane in Your Home

Trust Gas Fridge for the best propane appliances and EZ Freeze refrigerators,
Did you know that propane is a safe, efficient, and reliable alternative to electricity for many appliances? Many use propane to go off the grid, while others have propane in addition to the standard electricity in their home. Propane is an affordable choice that’s ideal for families who want to minimize their carbon footprint and go a little greener. Gas Fridge would like to share a few of the benefits associated with propane.

It’s Environmentally Safe - Propane is listed as a clean fuel in the 1990 Clean Air Act as well as the Energy Policy Act of 1992. It burns cleaner than any other fossil fuel. Propane does not contaminate groundwater or soil. Propane has a low carbon content, producing minimal emissions.

It’s Safe - Home propane tanks are often buried and tanks are 20 times more puncture resistant than those used for gasoline, ethanol, and methanol. If you do experience a propane leak, the added odorant will help you detect it. Propane has the distinct smell of rotting eggs to alert you to any problems.

Save Money - Propane is an affordable alternative to electric appliances. Heating your water with propane rather than electricity will save you 30 percent a year. A propane clothes dryer is 50 percent more efficient than its electric counterpart. A propane refrigerator uses a portion of the energy required to run an electric refrigerator.

Versatile - Many people associate propane solely with outdoor grills, but it can also power many household appliances. You can use propane for home heating or your boiler. A propane fireplace offers more even heating and eliminates the ash and soot produced by a wood burning fireplace. Clothes dryers, ranges, refrigerators and ovens can all run off propane as well. If your home is equipped to use propane, you have an extensive range of options available to you.

Efficient -
High-Energy Alternative - Propane, or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), is a high-energy alternative to traditional fuels. It has a higher octane rating than gasoline. Propane is a colorless and odorless liquid that vaporizes into a gas. While an electric heat pump delivers air only slightly warmer than the human body, propane provides a consistent air supply around 115 degrees. Electricity will take an hour to reheat a hot water tank, but propane can do the job in 20 minutes. This is a surprisingly efficient choice for powering your home.

To keep your propane tank and appliances in top condition, you should schedule annual maintenance. Make an appointment for propane appliance maintenance once a year when you have other appliances, like your HVAC system, tuned up. This regular visit will ensure that everything is in safe, working condition. For all of your propane appliance needs, call the experts at Gas Fridge at 928-636-6674. To learn more about propane usage in your home, please visit our website at http://www.gas-fridge.com.

Gas-Fridge Answers “How ‘green’ is propane?”

Gas-Fridge explains propane clean energy
If you are looking for a fuel that will provide not only immediate heat, but also steady, clean, efficient heat at an affordable price, look no further than propane. It is considered a "green" energy source, and propane can help homeowners cut emissions and protect the environment, all while enjoying a substantial savings over other fuel sources. For those of you dedicated to protecting and preserving our environment, Gas-Fridge is glad to let you know that propane is the clear choice for a number of reasons.

Here are some facts that you might not know about propane:

  • Propane is a significant part of the government and industry’s investment in technology.
  • Clean-burning propane heats homes, dries clothes, keeps your food cold, powers equipment, and is used as fuel for vehicles.
  • Propane is called autogas when it is used as a vehicle fuel.
  • Builders and contractors install propane appliances in their new energy efficient homes which saves buyers money, and also provides tax incentives.
  • Switching to propane and reducing your electricity usage can make a powerful difference for our environment and lower your monthly utility bill.
  • Propane gives off less than half as many greenhouse gas emissions as using an equivalent amount of electricity generated from the U.S. grid.

Propane is one of the cleanest-burning fossil fuels and leaves us with more breathable air. From production to output, propane is better on the environment. We highly recommend it to our clients for its energy efficiency, in addition to the fact that you still have power during difficult weather conditions in winter.

So for true green efficiency, consider propane as your fuel of choice. Not only does it keep our air cleaner, it is also safer in case of a spill since it is a gas, not a liquid that can soak into the ground and potentially contaminate the groundwater like gasoline or fuel oil can. Gas Fridge explains benefits of propane as an energy source

Gas Fridge explains benefits of propanePropane is a clean, portable energy source that many of us have come to enjoy and make great use of. You have probably never thought about the benefits beyond portability. Gas Fridge explains these benefits of propane as an energy source.
The basics of propane

Propane is a byproduct of natural gas processing and petroleum refining. It comes in the forms of liquid and gas. It only supplies about 4% of the US energy needs. It is a clean, efficient and, of course, portable energy source. Since about 90% of our propane is produced right here in the US, it is considered a stable domestic source of energy.  It is very safe as it is nontoxic, and odor has been added to it so it can be easily detected in the case of a leak.

A clean energy source

Propane is a very clean energy source. It is considered to be one of the cleanest burning fossil fuels. It is considered to be 99% efficient and reduces emission of greenhouse gases.

Benefits of utilizing propane

Propane is efficient, clean, available, portable, and easy to maintain. It is used primarily for portable fuel uses: outdoor cooking, heating, recreational purposes, a fuel source in remote areas and even in auto gas.

Gas-Fridge Discusses How a Gas Refrigerator Can Save You Money

Gas-Fridge shows how a propane gas refrigerator can save you moneyAlthough the initial cost to purchase a propane gas refrigerator is a bit higher than an electric refrigerator, the long term costs should be considered, since there are a number of cost factors. Gas-Fridge would like to share some of the money-saving features of a gas refrigerator.

First, comparing an electric refrigerator with a propane refrigerator is like comparing apples to oranges. An electric refrigerator runs with Freon and a compressor to pump the refrigerant through the system. A propane-powered refrigerator operates with a propane gas flame to heat the ammonia and distilled water, using hydrogen gas to circulate steam vapor and liquid ammonia to cool it down. No electric lines or inverters and generators are needed to power the refrigerator.

  • Comparing the operating costs of appliances that use fuels as different as propane and electricity is no easy task. The two fuels produce energy differently, they are measured and priced differently, and their energy is used differently by appliances. So a direct operating-cost comparison between a propane appliance and an electric appliance requires an understanding of energy cost, energy efficiency and appliance design.

  • Let’s look at one of the long term cost differences: the energy needed to run the refrigerator. The first step in comparing the operational costs of appliances that use the two fuels is understanding how much energy each fuel contains per unit of measurement. Electricity is measured in kilowatt-hours, and propane is usually measured in gallons. A gallon of propane can produce the same amount of energy as 27 kilowatt-hours of electricity.

  • The next step is to calculate the cost of an energy source per unit of measurement. For example, if the national average cost for residential propane is $3.08 per gallon, and the electric company’s baseline rate for electricity is 13.6 cents per kilowatt-hour, the 27-kilowatt-hour-per-gallon energy density of propane means it costs $3.67 to produce as much energy using electricity as it would cost to produce the same amount of energy using propane. As long as propane costs less than $3.67 per gallon, it's a cheaper energy source than electricity. Today's average rate for propane is about $ 2.36 per gallon.

The other cost-saving feature of a gas refrigerator is that it does not have moving parts like an electric refrigerator, which means in the long term there is less need for service and the appliance tends to last longer.

So the next time you are talking about getting a new refrigerator, consider the cost savings that could be realized with the purchase of a propane refrigerator - they’re not just for people living off the grid! Gas Fridge explains gas fridge don’ts

Gas Fridge wants you to be aware of what not to do or gas fridge don'ts
Gas Fridge brings you a list of things to keep in mind with your gas fridge, things not to do or gas fridge don’ts. It is good to educate yourself on the don’ts of a gas fridge, so here they are.

DON’T install a gas appliance of any kind in an air-tight area or a room used for sleeping. Since gas appliances use oxygen when the burner is in operation, this is very important. The main concern with a propane-fired gas fridge is that it could use all the oxygen in a room. Having a fresh air flow will keep this from happening.

DON’T allow the burner or flue to be obstructed. If the refrigerator has not been in recent use, the gas burner or flue above can be blocked by dust, dirt, carbon buildup, etc. If your refrigerator is partially plugged it can produce substantial amounts of carbon monoxide.

DON’T ignore your gas refrigerator if it is not working or cooling properly. Make sure to have it looked at by a professional service technician if you cannot seem to properly troubleshoot the problem. Also when it comes to installation, make sure it is done properly by someone who can test for gas leaks.

DON’T install a gas refrigerator that is meant for a residential space into a vehicle.

DON’T install in a tight space, always allow for the right amount of clearance.

DON’T place on a slope. It is important for your refrigerator to be level.

DON’T run electrical and gas power thermostats at the same time.

DON’T try to cool an empty gas fridge. It just does not work. This is also true with your home refrigerators and freezers. It just cools more effectively when the compartments are full.

DON’T expect your gas freezer to freeze large quantities of food from a thawed state. It is best to place already frozen food into your freezer.

This list is not intended to replace your user’s manual, but just some quick tips to keep in mind. It is important to make sure to understand the do’s and don’ts thoroughly when owning a gas refrigerator.

If you’ve made the decision to purchase a gas refrigerator, or if you would like to know more about them, contact Gas-Fridge, one of the premier dealers for gas refrigerators powered by propane or natural gas by EZ Freeze, at 928-636-6674 to speak to one of our experts. Gas-Fridge Offers Tips on How to Choose Off Grid Refrigerators & Freezers

Gas-Fridge offers tips on how to choose off grid refrigerators and freezers
Propane refrigerators are perfect for off grid living in vacation homes or hunting camps or your everyday home. They are small enough for remote cabins yet large enough for an entire ranch family. Other uses include natural disaster preparedness such as hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding, or storms that create power outages. Propane Refrigerators do not have EMF emissions and are silent operating due to the non electric and simple design using no continuous moving parts. The quiet operation of a propane refrigerator will add enjoyment to any peaceful vacation environment. Simply supply the unit with propane or natural gas. No electricity needed. Gas-Fridge would like to give you some tips on how to choose the off-grid, gas refrigerator that’s right for your needs.

Size - What size unit you need depends on how much fresh produce you’ll typically consume. If you are a family, you may want to consider a 16-18 cubic foot unit. If you are single, you may want to check out something in the 7-10 cubic foot range. Most of us have been conditioned to believe that a larger unit is better but more often than not, it ends up with spoiled food because it’s easy to forget about items that aren’t easily seen. Conversely, a refrigerator that is too small can become a source of frustration because one can’t store all the items they need.

Cold Control - Choose a refrigerator with a thermostat that allows you to control the temperature. Freezers should remain between -15 and -18°C, while your fridge should be between 3 and 4°C. A one degree change can affect energy consumption by 5%.

Refrigerators for living off the grid should be the most efficient, lowest energy consumption available. Gas-Fridge is proud to bring you quality absorption refrigerators from EZ Freeze. We have models ranging from 10 cubic feet through 21 cubic feet. Our gas refrigerators are perfect for all your off-grid living needs. Made in the USA by the Amish, their quality is unmatched in the field of household gas refrigeration.

If you’ve made the decision to purchase a gas refrigerator, or if you would like to know more about them, contact Gas-Fridge, one of the premier dealers for gas refrigerators powered by propane or natural gas by EZ Freeze, at 928-636-6674 to speak to one of our experts. Gas-Fridge Suggests Spring Cleaning Tips For Your Propane Appliances

Gas-Fridge suggests spring cleaning tips for your propane appliancesMost homeowners have their furnace and air conditioner systems checked in the spring and fall to make sure they are operating properly and efficiently. Your propane appliances also should be checked on a regular basis to ensure that they continue to operate at maximum efficiency. Gas-Fridge would like to offer a few tips to help with your spring cleaning efforts:

Safety: Make sure that the area within 10 feet of your propane tank and/or cylinder(s) is free of clutter. Remove any combustible materials, such as long, dry grass, wood, and debris.
Do not store propane cylinders or tanks indoors.
If you plan to add some plants or trees to your yard this spring, call 811 to have your utility lines marked before you start to dig to plant spring flowers, new trees, or for any other reason.

Cleaning Inside: Proper cleanliness is important, especially on the inside of the refrigerator. Spring might be a convenient time for cleaning your refrigerator is during the regular maintenance or right after defrosting. Cleaning both inside and outside should always be done with a soft cloth and mild soap and warm water solution. Rinse the inside with a baking soda and warm water mixture of approx 1-2 tbsp. to 1 qt. warm water. Then wipe dry with soft cloth. Never use harsh or abrasive cleaners and never use coarse clothes for cleaning.

Cleaning Outside: Waxing the outside of the refrigerator box may prevent against minor scratches and add to rust protection. Just use a standard auto wax on the painted metal surfaces only. Do not use on the plastic handles or rubber gasket. Always check the gasket surfaces for debris as this can cause a cold air leak from the interior.

Cleaning the absorption cooling unit: This will help with the units overall efficiency and should be done every three months. Simply use a large, soft bristle brush and clean the dust and lint from the condenser fins (at rear top of cooling unit) and the coil pipes below. Keeping the area around and under the refrigerator clean will help prevent debris from being sucked into the burner tube. This is the most common problem with propane powered refrigerators not operating correctly.

Defrosting: The easiest way to defrost the refrigerator compartment is to do it overnight without turning it off. Simply turn the thermostat to minimum in the late evening and the ice should dislodged by morning. Using a plastic ice scraper on the fins at the rear of the refrigerator compartment can help with the thicker pieces of ice. Place a cookie sheet or towel under the fins to catch the ice. Never use a metal scraper or ice pick. Reset the thermostat to the original setting. The defrosted water from the refrigerator compartment will drain down the drain tube into the catch pan under the rear of the unit. It will eventually evaporate without harm, or it can be removed with a sponge.

Your gas refrigerator is now ready to continue giving you long years of service with just a little attention. If you haven’t yet made the move to propane refrigeration, why not give the experts at Gas-Fridge a call and learn more about propane refrigeration and maintenance needs for your propane appliance. We can be reached at 928-636-6674 or learn more at http://www.gas-fridge.com.

How to keep your RV Refrigerator running great by Gas Fridge

Gas Fridge shares how to keep your RV refrigerator running great
RV fridges can be great or a pain in the RV. You will find that RVers either hate them or love them or somewhere in between. Gas Fridge wants to help you get the most out of your RV Refrigerator and keep it running great over the lifetime of the fridge.

The reason RV refrigerators are such a mystery is because they use a different cooling system than your household refrigerator. They use gas absorption, which involves heating ammonia to cool the fridge. You use either propane or an electric heating unit to heat the ammonia. So, it can be seen as more simple, as there are no moving parts to the RV Refrigerator.

When they work, they work great. The best advice is to make sure it is working beautifully prior to hitting the road. Here are some tips to help you with your RV Refrigerator and getting the most out of it:

Leave some empty space.  Not packing it too full will help, as they seem to work better when there is room for air to circulate. Even using a battery operated fan, may help, as well.

Keep it level.
Remember, this refrigerator has gas and ammonia working together. Keeping it level is important.  When you park, make sure not to park on an incline. Driving up and down hills is okay, because the gas inside sloshes around.

Keep food and drinks cool before packing the fridge.
Help it out by putting in cool stuff, as it may take a while for the refrigerator to get to the proper temperature.

The outside temperature matters.
These refrigerators react to the outside temperature. So, if it is hot, you may try parking in the shade. If it is cold out, you may need to adjust the temperature on the fridge.

These are just some basic tips to help you keep that RV refrigerator operating at its best.  If you still have some questions or would like to discuss further please don’t hesitate to call Gas Fridge at 928-636-6674 or visit http://www.gas-fridge.com.

For all your gas appliance needs contact Gas-Fridge.Experiencing a power outage is not normally on the forefront of our minds, but it’s necessary to be prepared for the unexpected. Gas Fridge offers these ways to protect your home and family in the event of a power outage. Your emergency plan should include a list of important phone numbers and a first-aid kit. Keep an ample supply of food and water to sustain you until power is restored. To help pass the time more comfortably, have some books and board games in your emergency kit as well.

Family Emergency Plan: Sit down with your family and draw out a plan of what each person should do in the event of an emergency. Assign who is responsible for getting flashlights, walkie-talkies, and decide how you will communicate if you are without internet or phone service. Locate places that might serve as an emergency shelter and plan a route ahead of time.

Emergency Contacts: It’s always helpful to have a list of important phone numbers easily accessible, and even more so during an outage. The list should consist of police, fire department, doctor and hospital phone numbers as well as emergency numbers for your local power company. Contact numbers for other agencies, such as your local Red Cross, should also be included.

Weather Radio: Staying aware of weather conditions in storm situations is important. A battery-operated or hand-crank radio is your best option since cell service and internet connections may be lost.

Water: A general rule of thumb is to have on hand one gallon of water per person per day. During emergencies, the Centers for Disease Control suggests individuals should drink at least two quarts of water per day.
